Dear sea friends, the thrust bearings of our company’s centrifugal compressors are movable components. During operation, the temperature of the main thrust bearings is normal, but the temperature of the auxiliary thrust bearings is high and triggers an alarm. I’m not sure what the reason for this is
On non-operating sides, there is no reason for high temperatures; most of these readings are false, and they do not reach the upper limit. Operations can be monitored, and there is an opportunity to stop the equipment in order to check the thermocouples and connections.

For the high temperature alarm of the auxiliary thrust bearing, first check the displacement of the large gear. As for the high temperature alarm on the auxiliary thrust bearing, I believe it’s due to an excessive axial thrust clearance; please also check the oil supply to that bearing.
Monitor its operation and carry out maintenance when necessary.
There must be a problem. If it’s not possible to shut down the machine for inspection, it is recommended to increase the oil pressure slightly; if no alarms occur, keep the machine running, and then conduct a thorough check during the next major maintenance

The force direction on the auxiliary thrust bearing and the main thrust bearing is opposite to each other. A high temperature of the auxiliary thrust bearing indicates that the load acting on the compressor unit is in the direction of the auxiliary thrust force. It is necessary to check whether the compressor unit is operating within its normal design load range; if it is not, it is normal for the auxiliary thrust bearing to reach high temperatures due to a compression ratio that does not meet the design requirements. If the temperature of the auxiliary thrust bearing remains high despite being within the normal design load range, this is abnormal, and it is advisable to contact the manufacturer of the unit for assistance.
Thank you all, sea friends. It turns out that the axial clearance is small and the temperature is high; it was adjusted to 27 microns. When the load is increased to above 0.8, the temperature rises as well – a higher load leads to a higher temperature. No signs of stress were found on the bearing pads, which is quite confusing; Next, check the oil inlet circuit; the axial movement is a bit larger again
