Any advice on the Public English Test?

Generally, these materials are distributed for the exams each year; just keep an eye on them.

Even though you are studying English, it’s still a good idea to prepare on your own so that you have a clearer understanding.

I do know that. I just want to find out what the level of the exam is like; I haven’t taken it before, haha, so I’m not sure

　　PETS places emphasis on communicative skills, but it does not completely rule out the assessment of language knowledge (grammar, vocabulary, etc.). Therefore, the components tested in PETS include: listening, language knowledge, reading, writing, and speaking. 　　The specific question types used in exams at various levels are detailed in the relevant exam syllabi.

PETS has five levels in total: PETS 1 is the introductory level, and its examination requirements are slightly above the English proficiency level of students who have completed junior high school. PETS 2 is at the intermediate-low level, and its exam requirements correspond to the English proficiency of outstanding graduates from regular high schools. 　PETS 3 is at an intermediate level; its examination requirements correspond to the level achieved by Chinese students after graduating from high school, who have then studied public English at a college for 2 years or self-studied English to an equivalent level. PETS 4 is at the intermediate to upper level; its examination requirements correspond to the level achieved by Chinese students after graduating from high school, who have then studied public English in university for at least another 3-4 years or self-studied English to an equivalent level. PETS 5 is the highest level, and its examination requirements are equivalent to the proficiency level reached at the end of the second year of a university English major in China. It’s divided into levels; the higher the level, the more difficult it becomes. But as long as one practices more and works hard, there shouldn’t be any problems. Since general English is primarily aimed at candidates who have left school, it places more emphasis on the everyday expressions and language used in real life; therefore, more study and practice are also necessary. :)

The difficulty level of PETS3 is roughly equivalent to that of the College English Test Band 4, while PTES4 is about on par with the College English Test Band 6. PETS5 is on a similar level to the College English Test Band 8 for non-English majors. The exam is usually held over two days: the first day is for written tests (including listening), and the second day is for oral tests. These two parts are scored separately; one must pass both to obtain the certificate. The passing score for the written test is 60 out of 100, while for the oral test it is 3 out of 5. If an individual item is passed, a certificate of passing for that item will be issued. Items that pass the next exam can be exempted from one examination. PETS5 is different from the previous levels; the listening section of the exam is scored separately. To pass, one must succeed in all aspects: the listening test, the written test, and the oral test, all at once... Personally, I feel that PETS5 requires a large vocabulary, so it’s advisable to focus on expanding one’s vocabulary before the exam. As for study materials, I bought them from bookstores. It’s mainly a vocabulary handbook. There’s no need to repeat key points in spoken language, as working in a foreign-funded company provides a linguistic environment. In the oral exam, as long as you don’t stay silent for too long, you’ll generally pass. No need for fancy language.

I mean, PETS5 isn’t that hard, is it? Otherwise, many students undergoing joint training would have to take the PETS5 exam before leaving, and with such a high threshold, many of them would fail
