I need to add a network card to my AW51F engineer workstation. Since it is a SUN workstation, its hardware structure is different from that of ordinary PCs, and the operating system seems to be Sun OS 5.5 (5.8). My questions are: 1. Can I use any PCI-compatible network card available on the market? Are there any special requirements? 2. What about the drivers? Network card drivers are all based on WINDOWS. I’m really confused by UNIX! I would like to thank everyone here first for any possible assistance

4# wopale3: The network card is different; it cannot be used with ordinary PC network cards. You can check SUN’s website for more information. I think each one costs around 4,000 yuan. A few years ago, there were quite a few people selling SUN network cards online, but now it’s unclear since I/A’s are no longer in use, haha.
HP, Intel, and Dell all have network cards that support Unix; for example, HP’s 5013 and 3492, as well as Intel’s pro100 and pro1000, all come with Unix drivers
The key issue with 6# film222 is not only that it needs to be used on UNIX, but also that it has to be installed on the AW51 engineering station (server) so that the foxboro system can recognize it.
AW51 uses Sun Sparc Ultra5/Ultra10 workstations, which have a different architecture from Intel’s; as a result, the network cards from these systems cannot be used together. This is one of the reasons why Foxboro switched to the Intel architecture and Windows – although Foxboro is not the only DCS manufacturer to do so. You can take a look at some well-known manufacturers, hehe.
Thank you all for your help; the problem has been solved. I purchased a network card from SUN China, and it was very cheap; no additional drivers were needed!
