It’s been almost ten years since I graduated, and I haven’t worked in the chemical industry until now. I’m currently working at a chemical company, and I’m looking for quick ways to identify the various valves on site. I hope everyone can suggest some good methods and advice!
If there are valves that are not installed, take a close look at their internal structure. In this way, the type of a general valve can be determined from the outside. Find a book on chemical engineering machinery, look for information on valves in the appendices, and use it to gain a deeper understanding by comparing it with the labels on valves in practice.

The valve selection manual published by the Mechanical Industry Press is worth reading more of; it’s helpful.
First, find the valve standards similar to JB308 and compare them with the actual conditions on site; after some time, an understanding of these valves will be developed. Additionally, the colors of the valve body, cover, and handwheel are also its identification colors; by looking at these colors, one can determine the material of the valve body and the sealing surfaces!

It is relatively simple to identify the different types of valves, but it’s more difficult to become familiar with the materials used in them. It is recommended to visit the manufacturers’ sites to inspect the products and gain an understanding of their internal structure as well as the materials used. If possible, it’s also a good idea to attend exhibitions; some manufacturers display their valve products in cut-open versions there
