How much pressure can a container made of high borosilicate glass withstand? Our company currently uses a glass tube with a wall thickness of 3mm and a diameter of 70mm. The top and bottom are sealed with glass plates of equal thickness. However, it burst when the pressure is 1.5kg/cm2. Is there any solution? In addition, one solution I am currently thinking of is to use a glass tube with metal flanges and sealing rings to seal the top and bottom. Can this problem be solved? Since the temperature of the water inside the container will change within the range of 10 to 60 degrees, will the thermal expansion and contraction of the glass caused by temperature changes cause stress cracks in the glass due to the compression of the metal flange?
1. It is definitely not good to seal the glass tube with a metal flange. It is easy to leak or crush the glass. 2. Consider increasing the thickness of the borosilicate glass. The increased wall thickness may not be suitable for the pipe diameter. You can consider process calculations and adjust the pipe diameter! You must be doing it for testing. You should be fine if you adjust the pipe diameter.
It is definitely inappropriate to use metal flanges. They are easily broken due to uneven stress and excessive temperature differences. . . It is recommended that the outside of the pipe be wrapped with carbon fiber and then impregnated with resin, which can play a very good anti-corrosion and strengthening role.
