How should glass plate level gauges be maintained and managed during use?
Installation, use, and maintenance of glass plate level gauges: (l) Before installation and use, level gauges for low- and medium-pressure vessels shall undergo a hydrostatic test at a pressure equal to 1.5 times the nominal pressure of the gauge; Level gauges for high-pressure vessels shall undergo a hydrostatic test at 1.25 times the nominal pressure of the gauge. (2) The level gauge should be installed in a location easily accessible for the operator to view, and it should be equipped with lighting and explosion-proof devices. If the installation location of the level gauge is not convenient for observation, other auxiliary facilities should be added. Large pressure vessels should also be equipped with centralized control facilities and alarm devices. (3) After the level gauge has been installed and calibrated, warning lines for the highest and lowest liquid levels should be marked on the dial using red paint. A baffle plate can be installed on the upper pipe of a level gauge that requires a stable liquid level indication. (4) The operating temperature must not exceed the allowable operating temperature of the glass tubes and plates. In winter, it is necessary to prevent the level gauge from freezing and becoming blocked, as well as to avoid false levels. (5) Operators of pressure vessels should strengthen the maintenance of level gauges to ensure they remain in good condition and readable at all times. The user unit may implement a regular maintenance system for the level gauge based on the actual operating conditions. (6) The level gauge should be discontinued from use if it is in one of the following conditions: the inspection period has expired ; The glass plate (tube) is cracked or broken ; The valve component is stuck and does not function ; False levels often occur.
Glass plate level gauges include transmissive, reflective, and mirror-type types; the applicable range for each type of glass plate level gauge must not exceed the maximum allowable operating pressure at various temperatures. If you don’t mind spending money, go with the glass tube version; the glass plate version isn’t very useful
