The differences between semi-saline water and deionized water are as follows: The water quality standards differ. For deionized water, the conductivity should be ≤10 μs/cm, hardness ≤2.0 μmol/L, iron content ≤30 μg/L, copper content ≤10 μg/L, SiO2 content ≤20 μg/L, oil content ≤0.3 mg/L, and the pH level should be between 8.5 and 9.5. For semi-saline water: 1. Total coliform count (MPN/100mL): 1.0 (average per month) or 6 (for single samples); 2. Total bacterial count (cells/mL): 100. As for physical parameters: turbidity is 4, color intensity is 15, odor level is 3, and there are no abnormal tastes. Regarding chemical parameters, for general chemicals, the pH level should be between 6.5 and 8.5, with no sulfides present. Semi-saline water is mainly used in industrial applications such as heat exchangers where high purity isn’t essential. Deionized water, also known as ion-free water, has higher quality requirements and is typically used as process water in manufacturing processes. Different industries have varying requirements for deionized water. Currently, membrane separation technology is the most commonly used method, as it offers low operating costs and high water utilization efficiency. For water with a conductivity of up to 1500 μs/cm, primary filtration is sufficient to meet the standards for boiler water. To obtain ultra-pure water, secondary filtration or a combination of primary and secondary filtration along with anion and cation exchange resins can be used.
