I’m working on a proposal recently and would like to ask everyone: can a sealed oil unloading point similar to those used at gas stations be used for loading oil? In other words, could a pump be used to push the oil from the tank into a vehicle through the quick connectors at the unloading point? This way, it can be loaded and unloaded as well; I wonder if that’s possible?
It is possible, but it is not recommended. A closed transfer hose that can be used for both loading and unloading is employed for trains, but when loading cars, it is more reasonable to separate the loading and unloading processes due to considerations regarding operation time. To put it simply, if one considers the need for both installation and removal, it is inefficient first of all, and it also hinders the scheduling of vehicles. But it can be achieved. A batch control system + mass flow meter + quick-opening valve + dual-purpose loading/unloading hose + process support will suffice, but you must not do this; it works for trains but not for cars
The frequency of vehicle arrivals has been taken into consideration; it is possible to ensure that only one vehicle enters the fuel loading and unloading area at any given time, thus eliminating the possibility of interference between vehicles. Is such a solution feasible? Is it necessary to use a sealed method for unloading oil along with loading it using a loading arm? I would appreciate your advice.
Furthermore, the issue of pump redundancy can be linked to oil loading and unloading; regarding pumps used for these purposes: 1. Can the pumps for loading oil and unloading oil be used interchangeably? Mutual backup? What are the specific requirements for each? 2. What principles govern the standby of pumps? The specifications that must be available are clear, but what about those that are optional?
It’s possible to do this; by using process piping, loading and unloading can be carried out without the need for flexible hoses. However, sealed loading also needs to be taken into account. So how can one determine whether the container is full or not? It’s not possible to do this using only a flow meter; therefore, it’s better to use transfer pipes. As for the issue of having backup pumps, I understand that any pump that stops operating during operation will affect normal functioning, so it must have a backup. Could the original poster share their solution? We are also planning to develop a closed-system for unloading light oil these days; we don’t want to hire a design firm, but we can’t find any examples for doing it on our own – it’s very difficult.
What the original poster means is that if it’s possible to use gas stations as oil depots, then why bother with vehicles? And where would they be transported to? Generally, loading is done to deliver fuel to gas stations. Moreover, what you’re suggesting won’t work either; to transfer fuel from the tank into the vehicle, a pump is needed, and there’s definitely a check valve after the pump. So what do we do when unloading fuel? Can’t get the oil products in?
It’s completely possible, but be sure to choose high-quality quick connectors with good sealing properties. There must also be someone on site during the operation, and the pressure should not be too high.
