Three moving blades on the turbine rotor of our plant have broken (located in three different stages), which represents a significant loss. I would appreciate it if everyone could help analyze the reasons for this issue. During inspection, it was found that both the moving and stationary blades were covered with scale, and to a fairly serious extent. I believe the main cause of fouling on the turbine blades and stators is the poor quality of the feedwater and steam; the feedwater contains large amounts of inorganic salts, which originate from untreated or inadequately treated make-up water. The common removal methods are as follows: 1. Stop the turbine and remove the cylinder, using mechanical methods (high-pressure cleaning guns). 2. Clean with hot water while the drum is rotating. 3. Wet steam flushing under load. 4. Flush with hot humid steam at low speed.
The reasons for blade failure include: 1 mechanical damage, 2 water hammer damage, 3 corrosion and rust damage, 4 water erosion damage, and 5 vibration-induced fracture. The main cause of scaling is substandard steam quality.
