Our company has newly installed a 5,000-liter reactor, with a double-blade stirrer. My question is: how can we test the efficiency of the stirring? Our reaction material is a liquid homogeneous phase. Thank you :)
After stirring for a certain period of time, samples are taken from different locations for testing; if the results are the same or very similar, it indicates that the stirring was effective, otherwise it was not

There are many criteria for determining the effectiveness of homogeneous stirring in liquid states. Generally, a chemical reaction occurs whenever two or more liquid phases are mixed together; at the same temperature, pressure, and in the same container, different concentrations require different reaction times. If the concentrations of the two materials being mixed remain constant, mixing efficiency refers to the shortest time required to achieve the desired mixing effect. The shorter this time, the shorter the cycle time for this unit operation, the higher the output, and the lower the energy consumption per unit of product. In most cases, the process design provides data on the minimum reaction time; within this specified time, the mixing effect can be assessed by checking the composition of the liquid after mixing at different liquid levels. Since it is not possible to take samples from different liquid levels within the same container in actual operations, it is possible to use a method of taking samples in stages – that is, by adding liquid at different levels each time, while keeping the liquid concentration constant and the mixing time the same. By gradually increasing the liquid level, the mixing effect can be determined. Within the same mixing time, the highest liquid level combined with uniform mixing results represents the best outcome.
Our previous method for testing the mixing efficiency in the extraction mixing chamber was to use a 1L measuring cylinder, quickly pour the solution from the mixing chamber into it, and let it stand for about 3 minutes, during which time we observed the degree of clarification and phase separation.
Thank you to everyone on floor 7. It’s not easy to take samples in practice; the various methods are somewhat troublesome. Is there a simpler and more feasible way?
Suggestion: Take a certain amount of the same material, mix it in a beaker under the process conditions, and then compare it with the sample results obtained from the equipment.
