I have a question about the pump. The pump in our unit is a centrifugal pump. We noticed that there is a rubber ring on the shaft of the pump. Some pumps do not have it, some fit better with the pump, and some are looser and rotate with the rotation of the pump. I don’t understand its purpose. I guess it is a sealing function. I asked the teacher to answer that it is an oil-proof ring. We still don’t understand it. I am skeptical. I want to ask for your explanation. I have heard of the oil-slinging ring, but I have not paid attention to it. I also want to know the specific function of its shape.
The main function of this rubber ring is to prevent the silicon carbide sleeve from colliding with the metal parts of the pump body and causing fragmentation after the pump shaft moves! It is a completely different concept from the oil thrower. It is a lubrication method of splash lubrication. It rotates with the shaft and throws the oil from the oil pool into the bearing and the bearing box by centrifugal force.
There are many names for this ring, such as acid-proof ring, oil-proof ring, water-proof ring, etc.; Its function is to prevent medium or water droplets leaking from the mechanical seal from being brought into the bearing box, thereby causing the deterioration of the lubricating oil in the box! Generally the most common in single-stage cantilever centrifugal pumps! :)
It is to prevent lubricating oil or grease from splashing, and it can be used without it.
