What is the difference between integral flanges and welded flanges? Is it entirely cast as one piece?
Flanges can be classified by structure into integral flanges, slip-on flanges, and threaded flanges. Common integral flanges include flat welding flanges and butt welding flanges. Flat welding flanges have poor rigidity and are suitable for applications with a pressure of p≤4MPa ； Butt weld flanges, also known as high-neck flanges, have high rigidity and are suitable for applications with high pressure and temperature.
First, check whether the materials are consistent. If the entire component is cast while the welded part is made of steel plate, then the stiffness and damping ratio of the welded structure made of steel plate will be higher than those of the fully cast component. When comparing cast components with those made by welding steel plates, both the stiffness and damping ratio of the steel plate-based structures are higher, which results in better seismic performance. For example, many machine tool frames abroad are constructed using welded steel plates; this approach can be used either to maintain the structural shape and increase stiffness and damping ratio, or to achieve the same level of stiffness and damping ratio while reducing the weight of the structure
