As the title suggests, I recently encountered a project in which the technical specifications stated that heating might be necessary to bend stainless steel pipes. As far as I remember, stainless steel pipes cannot be heated. I would appreciate advice from fellow sailors. . . .

My understanding of this statement is that such products are generally manufactured using cold forming processes; if cold forming proves difficult, hot forming methods can be employed (such as medium-frequency pushing or flame heating for bending). However, very few companies use flame heating for bending these days, and the quality of products formed by such methods is not very good – the diameter at the bent area cannot be guaranteed. It shouldn’t be possible; this will have an impact on the stainless steel. Why not use an elbow instead?
The elbow isn’t long enough; the bent pipe needs to be quite long, with a 180-degree bend, which is something an elbow cannot achieve.
I can solve this issue; it’s possible to heat the material while ensuring that the pipe diameter remains unchanged, and medium-frequency induction heating is used for this purpose.
If you provide the pipe diameter, wall thickness, bend radius, and angle, it can be resolved. :lol
In the PSI standard ES-24, it only states that it is necessary to determine whether hot bending or cold bending should be used based on parameters such as pipe diameter, wall thickness, bending radius, and angle, but it does not specify when to use hot bending and when to use cold bending.
