Guided by the scientific development concept, Sichuan Petrochemical is accelerating the construction progress of its integrated refining and chemical project. 　　This year, the Sichuan Petrochemical project will complete the preliminary design for the integrated refining and chemical processing facility, essentially finish the construction drawings, place orders for key equipment with long lead times, start the civil engineering work, and complete the construction of the underground main pipelines. The Sichuan Petrochemical Integration Project consists of 10 million tons of refining capacity per year and 800,000 tons of ethylene production per year. It includes 13 main refining units, 8 main chemical processing units, as well as auxiliary and utility systems, with completion and operation expected by 2012. This project began to take shape in 1988, going through a nearly 20-year process of twists and turns. During the 20-year period of preliminary evaluation, **the relevant ministries and authoritative agencies conducted thorough scientific assessments and rigorous step-by-step reviews regarding various aspects such as the regional planning, environmental impact, and technical standards of the project; as a result, all the requirements for approving the project were met**, and the project was included in the **Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for the Refining Industry**. Following the Wenchuan earthquake, China National Petroleum Corporation actively organized post-earthquake assessments of the Sichuan petrochemical projects, properly evaluating factors such as the construction conditions and geological defenses in the areas where these projects were located. This provided a scientific basis for future construction efforts, ensuring the safety and reliability of the project construction and bringing benefits to the local population.
