In the pipeline system from the incoming oil pipeline to the tank farm, ordinary electric gate valves are used at the outlet of the oil transfer pumps; however, experts recommend using regulated electric gate valves instead. What is the difference between the two, and what are their respective characteristics? Thank you to those who can provide answers!
7. When the oil pump is also used as a tank transfer pump, flow regulation for tank transfer should be considered; it is recommended to use a regulated gate valve at the pump outlet. This post was last edited by beijingbeijing on 2009-4-17 21:29]
Gate valves are generally used for opening and closing; for regulating the flow at the pump outlet, butterfly valves or globe valves seem to be better choices in my opinion
But it makes sense that experts recommend the use of adjustable electric gate valves.
Bro, don’t just post meeting minutes on the forum casually; be careful lest Pipeline Company or Western Pipeline Company hold you and CPEHB accountable. Experts simply want to regulate the pump outlet flow, but don’t want to use control valves (it’s expensive). Large-diameter stop valves are relatively rare; regenerative gate valves are used as a last resort. Generally, gate valves do not have flow regulation capabilities, so if such valves are chosen, it is necessary to examine their flow curve.
Well, the guy upstairs is right, haha

The feed pumps are installed in parallel and driven by motors with fixed speed, while the main oil transfer pump is installed in series and also driven by a motor with fixed speed. Both the inlet valves of the feed pumps and the main oil transfer pump are electric flat gate valves; the outlet valve of the oil transfer pump is an electric flat gate valve equipped with guide holes.
Hello, I encountered the same issue in my project. What is the actual effectiveness of using a regulated gate valve at the outlet of an oil transfer pipeline pump? Thank you
