First of all, it should be noted that gate valves are not suitable as control valves, while ball valves can be used as control valves. To convert a manual ball valve into a pneumatic control valve, it is first necessary to select an actuator; the pneumatic piston actuator should be chosen for this purpose ; Next, the valve body is connected to the actuator, mainly by connecting the valve stem to the piston ; Third, install the valve positioner and connect the piping, making sure to add an air-shutoff safety cylinder to meet the requirements for opening, closing, or maintaining the valve in case of a failure. Finally, configure on the DCS to achieve automatic control.
Gate valves are not suitable as control valves, while ball valves are generally used as on/off shut-off valves.

Regardless of whether gate valves or ball valves are suitable as control valves, if you want to switch to pneumatic control valves, the following accessories are required: pneumatic actuators (available in diaphragm and piston types), valve positioners, etc. If you wish to switch to a pneumatic cut-off valve, the following accessories are required: select an appropriate cylinder based on the valve’s torque, choose a solenoid valve, select connectors for the cylinder and the valve stem, and select a valve feedback device.
