Guys, I’m facing a production problem right now and I’m hoping you can help me out! Here’s the situation: there are two types of coal available. Type 1 has a volatility content of 18, adhesiveness of 55, and an Y value of 10. Type 2 has a volatility content of 33, adhesiveness of 65, and an Y value of 15. Currently, Type 1 is used in 35% of the mixture, while Type 2 is used in 65%; the resulting coal mixture has an adhesiveness of around 60 and an Y value of 10. The coke has very poor strength, contains a lot of coke foam, and it appears to not have melted at all. Test No. 1 uses 30, while Test No. 2 uses 70; the Y value for the blended coal is even lower, at only 9 mm ; Number 1 is 50, number 2 is 50, but the Y value for the coal mixture is 13 mm. Based on past experience, I’m not sure how to prepare this coal mixture; I earnestly ask for your help! Thank you so much!
Coal No. 2 has a high volatility content; when used in large quantities, it results in a high porosity within the coke, making the coke fragile and having low resistance to crushing, which in turn leads to an abundance of coke dross; The proportion of coal types with low volatile matter should be increased to ensure the density and crush resistance of coke, thereby increasing its lump size. Based on the information you provided, it is recommended to try using 55% of coal type one and 45% of coal type two. Personal opinion, for reference only!
Your coal is itself coking coal; type 1 is lean coal, while type 2 is 1/3 coking coal. It’s not necessarily a single type of coal – it’s quite likely to be a mixed coal. Coking is carried out using the ramming method, with a furnace temperature that is higher than normal. You need coking coal, or add some asphalt.
It’s hard to say which of these two coal blending methods is better; if it doesn’t work, let’s try adding another type of coal.
Coking with these two types of coal does not yield good coke quality
Coking is not merely a matter of coal blending; other factors also need to be taken into consideration for gradual improvement.

There is a lack of intermediate coal grades; it would be best to have bituminous coal and coking coal, otherwise the melting ranges of coal types 1 and 2 cannot overlap.
