**Qualifications for applicants to become mechanical engineers

Eligibility requirements for the Registration Mechanical Engineer Examination. Publication date: 2007-6-20 10:51:43. Article 2: The qualification examination is divided into a basic examination and a professional examination. Those who have passed the basic examination and meet the requirements for registering for the specialized examination as stipulated in these rules may take the specialized examination. Only after passing the professional examination can one obtain the \"Certification Certificate for Registered Mechanical Engineers in Survey and Design of the People’s Republic of China\". 　　Article 3: The basic exam is conducted over 2 half-days, each lasting 4 hours. The professional exam consists of two parts: professional knowledge and professional case studies. Each part lasts for 2 half-days, with each half-day being 3 hours long. 　　Article 4: Those who meet the requirements of Article 8 of the Interim Provisions on the Registration System for Registered Mechanical Engineers in Survey and Design, and possess one of the following conditions, may apply to take the basic examination: (1) Having obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher in this field (referring to Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Materials Forming and Control Engineering, and Process Equipment and Control Engineering; see Appendix 1 for details) or a related field (referring to Metal Materials Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Printing Engineering, Textile Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, etc.; see Appendix 1 for details). 　　(II) Hold an associate degree in this major or a related field, and have at least 1 year of experience in mechanical engineering construction design work. 　　(III) Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from another specialized university, with at least 1 year of cumulative experience in mechanical engineering construction project design. 　　Article 5: Those who have passed the basic examination and meet one of the following conditions may apply to take the professional examination: (1) Having obtained a doctoral degree in this field, and having engaged in mechanical engineering design work for a total of 2 years ； Or, after obtaining a doctoral degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction project design for a total of 3 years. 　　(II) After obtaining a master’s degree in this field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction project design for a total of 3 years ； Or, after obtaining a master’s degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction design for a total of 4 years. 　　(III) Having obtained a double bachelor’s degree including this major, or having completed a postgraduate program in this field, and having accumulated at least 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work ； Or obtain a double bachelor’s degree in a related field, or complete postgraduate studies, and have accumulated at least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work. 　　(IV) After obtaining a bachelor’s degree from a university that has passed the education assessment for this field, having accumulated at least 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work ； Or, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree from a university that has not passed the evaluation for education in this field, having worked in mechanical engineering-related construction project design for a total of 5 years ； Or, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a related field, having accumulated at least 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work. 　　(5) After obtaining an associate degree in this field, having accumulated at least 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction project design work ； Or, after obtaining an associate degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction design for a total of 7 years. 　　(VI) Having obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher from another specialized university, and having accumulated at least 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction project design. 　　Article 6: As of December 31, 2002, those who meet one of the following conditions may be exempted from the basic examination and only need to take the professional examination: (1) Having obtained a doctoral degree in this field, and having accumulated at least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work ； Or, after obtaining a doctoral degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction project design for a total of 6 years. 　　(II) After obtaining a master’s degree in this field, having accumulated at least 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction project design work ； Or, after obtaining a master’s degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction project design for a total of 7 years. 　　(III) Having obtained a double bachelor’s degree including this major, or having completed a postgraduate program in this field, and having accumulated at least 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work ； Or, having obtained a double bachelor’s degree in a related field or completing postgraduate studies, with at least 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work. 　　(IV) Having obtained a bachelor’s degree in this field, with at least 8 years of cumulative experience in mechanical engineering design work ； Or, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a related field, having accumulated at least 9 years of experience in mechanical engineering design work. 　　(5) After obtaining an associate degree in this field, having accumulated at least 9 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction project design work ； Or, after obtaining an associate degree in a related field, having worked in mechanical engineering construction design for a total of 10 years. 　　(VI) Having obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher from another specialized university, and having accumulated at least 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction project design. 　　(7) After obtaining a junior college degree from another specialized university, having accumulated at least 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction design work. 　　(8) After obtaining a secondary vocational diploma in this field, having accumulated at least 25 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction design work ； Or, after obtaining a secondary vocational diploma in a related field, having accumulated at least 30 years of experience in mechanical engineering construction design work.
