Status of the global control valve industry: There are over 5,000 valve manufacturing companies worldwide. Since the production of standard valve products is simple and their demand is high, competition in this field is extremely fierce on a global scale. The top 15 companies in the world have not reached a monopolistic level. The five largest valve manufacturers in the world – TYCO, FLOWSERVE, EMERSON, DRESSER, and COOPER – account for only 12% of the total global market sales. The next five companies, ABB, SPX, CIRCOR, MESTO, and KSB, together account for just 4% of those sales. Overall, the combined market share of the top 15 companies in the global market is less than 19%. In contrast, control valve products, which require a high level of technical expertise in the valve industry, see the top 15 companies in the world accounting for approximately 85% of the global market. Since control valves were first used in steam engines in the 19th century, they have evolved into an industry with an annual global output value of around $20 billion, and they continue to experience steady growth amid the advancement of global industrialization. Currently, the global control valve market, like most industrial products, is divided among three economic regions: the North American region led by the United States, the European Union region represented by Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, and the Asia-Pacific region led by Japan.

After decades of development, there are currently around 3,000 manufacturers of valves in China, with less than 200 specializing in the production of control valves. Except for a few special valve products, the existing range and quantity of products are generally sufficient to meet the needs of economic development. However, there is still a significant gap compared to foreign products in terms of technical aspects such as the reliability and service life of various valves. Most domestic control valve manufacturers introduced technology from countries such as Germany, the United States, and Japan in the 1980s, and began to produce products through joint ventures; for example, WuZhong Instrument Factory collaborated with Japanese company YAMATAKE, while Anshan Automatic Control Co., Ltd. partnered with German company IWK and Japanese company KOSO. At the same time, a large number of private and corporate enterprises have entered the valve industry, but their main focus at present is on general-purpose valves; those that concentrate on control valves as their primary products are still few. Overall, control valves produced domestically are characterized by low technical content, short service life, and average quality. A considerable number of these products, especially those with special performance requirements, suffer from significant shortcomings in terms of their design and quality, necessitating imports. Approximately 200 million dollars worth of valve products are imported each year, with control valves accounting for around 70% of that amount. It mainly includes high-parameter control valves, pressure reducing valves, and safety valves for power plants ； High-parameter control valves for the petrochemical and metallurgical industries, as well as metal-sealed butterfly and ball valves. With the rapid development of China’s economy, investment in sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, metallurgy and steel, and municipal services has continued to increase. While this has effectively driven the sustainable growth of the national economy, it has also created unprecedented opportunities for the control valve industry.
