Dear colleagues, could you please tell us about the components of the slag transfer system in your company’s circulating fluidized bed boilers? Should there be one common slag bin for two or three boilers, or should each boiler have its own independent slag transfer system?
Two or three furnaces can be designed to share a slag bin and slag transfer facilities.
My opinion: For large and medium-sized circulating fluidized bed boilers, it is best to equip each boiler with an independent slag transfer system. Because an independent slag transfer system is in place, if there is a problem with this system, it is possible to reduce the load on that boiler in order to carry out repairs; meanwhile, the total steam production can be balanced by increasing the load on other boilers ; If several boilers share a slag transfer system, any problem with that system will lead to fluctuations in the total steam output. For circulating fluidized bed boilers, if the moisture content of the coal is high or there is an excess of coal gangue, problems are more likely to arise in the coal conveying system and the slag conveying system.
Our units have a single slag transfer system; currently, each furnace is equipped with only one slag cooler. It would be good to have an additional slag transfer system, so that slag doesn’t have to be removed in case of accidents
Personal opinion: Each circulating fluidized bed boiler has an independent slag transport system, while the slag bins can be shared among multiple boilers. It is necessary to consider the specific circumstances; there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
