When using SW6 version 5.0 for the calculation of horizontal vessels, the data required for SA516Gr.70 was added to the user material database. The calculation of the vessel shell and heads worked fine, but when calculating the saddles, it was indicated that the B value necessary for external pressure calculations could not be found for the shell material in GB150; therefore, an alternative material had to be selected. How should this alternative material be chosen?

In my opinion, the problem lies in the fact that the version of SW you are using is too old. In older versions, the **standard specifications or industry standards** in use did not include the formulas needed for calculating cylinder dimensions; either those formulas have changed or the materials used have been replaced. As a result, SW cannot provide you with the necessary information. There are two solutions: either upgrade your software, but since it’s likely that you’re using an illegal copy, it would be better to uninstall it and install the latest version, such as SW2009. This should work, as many of the data and formulas in SW are based on standards that need to be updated
Thank you for your reply. We are using the latest version, SW6-98 5.0, which was upgraded in 2009. There seems to be no SW2009; you must be referring to the SW6 software that was upgraded in 2009. However, I also understand that it is necessary to choose Material B with a value that is similar to that of the other material. That is, I can choose Q245R as a substitute for SA516Gr.70.
It is better to choose Q345R.
