The two-stage furnace developed by Xi’an Thermal Power Institute completed its pilot test in April 2006, and the results from those tests were quite good. If industrial-scale production is successful, it should be competitive with Shell’s version. According to their work plan, industrial scale-up was to be completed in 2009, with plans to apply it to the IGCC system at Huaneng Group’s Tianjin Green Coal Power Company (with a coal feed rate of 1000 T/d). To be honest, the development of two-stage reactors is rather average; there are no industrial-scale installations available at present. The 300,000-ton methanol project in Inner Mongolia’s Shilin area has not yet had its design completed, and the level of detail in the process design is insufficient. (Insider)

I have been to the sites of Tianjin and Shilin. In Tianjin, everything is pending a decision from the Development and Reform Commission; some contracts for large-scale equipment have already been signed, but they have not yet been implemented. It’s probably still early at Shilin; their factory even doesn’t have a place where people can eat.
Where are the gasifiers for Huaneng’s green coal-fired power plants manufactured? Do those in the know understand?
The pilot plant furnace was manufactured by West Nuclear; as for IGCC, it’s not clear, but West Nuclear is the most likely candidate
Dude, there seems to be an issue with the capacity – it’s supposed to be 2,000 tons per day, not 1,000 tons. Tianjin Green Coal Power is working on this, so there are likely to be some problems. As for the extent of those problems, it’s hard to say; it’s just a concept. SHELL has been conducting tests in the Netherlands for a long time; they also have alternative fuels. It seems they don’t have much natural gas or anything like that, so there will likely be many problems in the future. These are just my personal insights for everyone’s reference. :) :handshake
A friend works at the Xi’an branch, so they know a bit about it. Right after completing the pilot test at Xi’an Institute, it took on two projects in Tianjin and Shilin, which helped with the promotion of its two-stage furnace. However, later on, other factors affected the progress, thereby impacting the development of this two-stage furnace. The lack of funding for the Shilin project has delayed its progress. It is said that funds became available last year, and the project is progressing rapidly at present. For the Tianjin project, the preliminary design and the procurement of key equipment have been completed; it is now awaiting project approval. As for inferring the project progress based on difficulties in eating upstairs, I think it’s inaccurate. I haven’t been to the sites of these two projects; I’ve only been to some other projects in Inner Mongolia. At some of those sites, there are just a couple of sheds at the entrance where there are restaurants serving Sichuan and Hunan cuisine, and the conditions there are not even as good as those of street stalls in the city. For the Shilin project, the 1,000-ton vaporization furnace equipment has already been ordered! The manufacturer is Hangzhou Boiler!

If the quenching process for Shilin’s 300,000-ton methanol gasifier is optimized successfully, it would be truly inspiring!
