What should you do when encountering such a project? I’m working on a project right now that’s really frustrating: the necessary conditions aren’t in place. I’m collaborating with an air separation plant, which is supposed to provide everything needed in terms of processes, equipment, and instruments. I thought it would be easier, but I was greatly disappointed when I received what they provided: 1. There are too many problems – it’s impossible to connect the PID systems properly, and the methods used for representation aren’t standardized. Some drawings don’t even include pipe numbers. The equipment diagrams don’t match the PID diagrams, and it’s not possible to determine the location and orientation of the pipe connections from those diagrams. There are no information regarding the instruments either. Additionally, there’s no list of pipe names, so it’s impossible to know the operating conditions, nor can the wall thickness or insulation requirements for the pipes be calculated. 2. Communication is difficult – we only met once during the initial stages of the project, and whenever I try to meet again, they claim to be busy. We’re in the same city, yet we have to communicate via email, which makes things unclear. 3. As for progress, at least that’s clear. How would you handle such a project? I originally thought of installing skylights, but that way there would be too many windows, which would all be connected together and form a single curtain wall. The problem is that the project manager can’t really help either
A face-to-face meeting is necessary, and after the discussion, there must be a meeting minutes. As for what you said about the other party being busy and having no time, this is a problem that the project manager needs to solve.

We have a similar situation: the project manager, relying on a little bit of experience, ends up being a mere figurehead who doesn’t care about anything behind the scenes. It seems the poster is a serious and responsible person.
Only communication can solve problems. The PID does not match the device, so it must be standardized. The PID diagram is incomplete; it might be a draft version of the PID. It is necessary to determine it based on the process instruments and equipment before a layout plan for the equipment can be drawn up. Only then can the positions of the equipment’s connections and its base plates be determined, and construction can proceed. It is best for the PID to be designed by a design institute of grade B or above.
The owner is required to organize a review of the materials provided by the supplier, and at the review meeting, the existing problems and deadlines shall be re-established.
It’s indeed troublesome to encounter such situations; companies engage in technical work, and it has to be done thoroughly, without the slightest carelessness. I think that the other party is not thorough enough in their work; their superiors either are not aware of the problems or know how to act as leaders but fail to do so in practice.
