The issue of methanol in the C4 fraction after methanol washing in the MTBE unit

2009-04-14View Original

Thread Content

I found that the C4 stream coming from the top of the methanol wash tower in my MTBE unit contains methanol; the samples taken from the C4 tank contain about 10% methanol. The water discharged from the dehydration stage of the butene-1 unit contains around 25% methanol, while the butene-1 product contains approximately 0.5%-1% methanol. I’m not sure if this happens on other devices; please, fellow sailors, share your experiences.

No one has replied to this post either; it seems that those involved in MTBE production aren’t very active.

Our MTBE butene-1 plant won’t start operating until next year, so there’s nothing we can do. However, it seems that our refining MTBE doesn’t have this problem

Our MTBE doesn’t seem to have this problem

It is very likely that there is a problem with the design of the methanol extraction tower
