What causes chlorinated paraffins to become cloudy?

Our factory is facing a tricky problem at the moment. When only ion-exchange membrane caustic was used, the chlorinated paraffins produced had excellent color and transparency. However, once diaphragm caustic was added, problems arose with the chlorinated paraffins: their color remained unchanged, but their transparency decreased and they became cloudy. The problem resolved itself once the diaphragm caustic was stopped being used.
What are the main components of diaphragm alkali, and are there any reactions?
