Why are flange connections not used for the external piping of pressure vessels designed for temperatures above 400°C, but instead weld connections are employed to ensure sealing performance under high-temperature conditions?
Which standard specifies this? We have used flange connections before.
I don’t think this meets that standard :o. However, given such high temperatures, it’s obvious that ordinary non-metallic gaskets won’t work. Moreover, if composite gaskets are used, differences in thermal expansion coefficients could lead to seal failure; in severe cases, the gaskets might even catch fire at high temperatures. If flange connections are used, ring seals should be employed, with metal rings chosen as the gaskets. Since equipment operating at high temperatures should be equipped with devices for measuring temperature and pressure, etc., using flange connections for the installation of such devices facilitates maintenance and replacement. :lol
Flange connections require consideration of sealing issues, as well as thermal expansion and contraction of materials; they need to be tightened again after each start-up and shutdown, and are prone to leakage.
Hello, on the first floor: Pressure vessels with a design temperature of over 400°C are likely to be high-pressure vessels as well, and in such cases, butt welding is used for connection
The equipment mentioned by the original poster – due to the temperature of 400 degrees – results in high costs associated with flange connections, so they probably cut corners; or is it the manufacturer trying to deceive you? How did I not notice this rule?
We have never seen this standard; we use flange connections instead
