When drawing, should one specify a line width and print according to that width, or not specify a line width but use colors to distinguish them, and then print using those colors? I’ve been dealing with drawings related to waterways these past two days. They use PL to draw lines and specify the line width, as this way, when others receive the drawings, they can simply print them according to the specified width – it’s straightforward. If printing were done based on color, then others wouldn’t know how to set the width. It seems to make sense too.
Either one is fine. It is important for the team to be unified.

There are all kinds of ways to do it; any way will work! Using the pl command to specify the line width is not very good; firstly, it’s cumbersome to draw, as each line has to be specified individually, and secondly, making changes becomes even more troublesome. The common way to specify line width is by using layer controls, where the line width is set within the layer. The advantage is that it’s easy to make modifications and it’s also convenient for printing; this is the method I use, and I recommend it. The method of specifying line width with colors has the advantage of being faster; it can be said to be the quickest approach, and drawing becomes simpler as well. Because if the colors of your layers are dark and the line widths vary, errors are likely to occur while drawing, and the method used to control layer line widths will also be inaccurate. The downside of color settings is that they need to be specified during printing. If they are set by oneself (and remain unchanged due to habit), printing becomes straightforward, but it becomes troublesome when exchanging drawings with others.
Line width is related to various specialties. For example, when marking arrows, arrows are generally used, but not in the case of buildings. It is convenient to use colors to control line width, but the situation is different in specialized fields such as piping and water systems. Color control fails to meet the line width requirements, making the lines appear too thin ; There’s also what LZ mentioned: you can print the diagram directly once you have it. Pline drawing: set it once, and it can be used directly thereafter without any further adjustments needed ; Even if adjustments are needed, it can be done using the format brush. Moreover, for a project, the line width requirements can be specified in advance; that is, no matter how much the design changes later on, the line width remains unchanged.
