Thank you for your hard work, OP! 1. Reduce friction and collisions between moving and stationary parts. This statement is not precise! Without a steam seal, it’s impossible to make any contact at all; there needs to be some contrast for it to work!
It is probably to prevent outside air from entering the cylinder, as this could cause damage to the rotor. The entry of cold air into the cylinder has serious consequences; it can also lead to a decrease in vacuum level
Another very important function is to prevent steam from entering the lubricating oil, thus avoiding water contamination in the oil and preventing it from becoming emulsified and deteriorating
Reduce friction and collisions between moving and stationary parts. It doesn’t serve that purpose; in other words, it doesn’t prevent high pressure from leaking out or low pressure from leaking in, which could affect the vacuum level. The first one seems to be the function of lubricant, right?
