Are there any requirements regarding the flow rate of the heat exchanger connections? I hope experts can give some guidance
The flow rate should meet the general design requirements. It should be noted that the pressure drop due to condensation should not be too large, in order to prevent flashing
There are generally requirements regarding the flow velocity in process pipelines; refer to the Chemical Process Design Manual for details. The flow velocity in the heat exchanger connections should usually be lower than that in the process pipelines. After performing calculations using software, detailed information on the pressure drop across the tube side and the shell side is provided. The proportion of pressure drop at the connections should not be too large, generally not exceeding 20% of the total pressure drop. The maximum flow velocity for the nozzles can be calculated using the values given in the book \"Principles and Calculations of Heat Exchangers\": for nozzles in the tube side, ρu2 ≤ 3300, and for nozzles in the shell side, ρu2 ≤ 2200. Here, ρ is in kg/m3 and u is in m/s. The flow velocity of the shell-side connections can also be calculated using the installation conditions for anti-overflow baffles as specified in the \"Comprehensive Book on Chemical Equipment Design – Heat Exchangers\".
