In the aqueous urea process, why is the ammonia outlet of the inert gas scrubber higher than the outlet of the gas phase pipe (as observed from the outside of the equipment)?
That’s because the exhaust gas pipe extends from the separation section in a shape of a vertical bend. Why is this format used? The main reason is that the separation section of the inert gas scrubber is designed to be small from an explosion-proof perspective. However, a small separation section makes it easy for the gas leaving the system to contain liquid, resulting in overpressure in that section. Therefore, the outlet vapor pipe is designed to be located at the very top of the separation section; thus, in actual piping design, only this \"vertical bend\" configuration can ensure that the outlet vapor pipe is at the top.
