I would like to ask some senior colleagues about the coding system for valves. With the advancement of science and technology and the increase in manufacturers, there are more and more types of valves available. Even within the same type of valve, there are numerous models. There are simply too many codes for these valves, and it’s not clear what rules govern their naming. It’s not like the unified naming system established by the Ministry of Machinery in the past (for example, globe valves were coded as J, flange connections as 4, and internal threads as 1). In practical work, if you can’t remember the code of a valve, it becomes difficult to purchase that type of valve. Below are some of the model numbers for the steam traps produced by Beijing 920 Technology Co., Ltd.: TB5, TB3, TBL514, TB1N, CA2-TB, etc. I would like to ask the senior colleagues: 1. For the coding of these steam traps, does this company follow certain rules or standards, or is it simply an arbitrary decision by the company, similar to using a trademark? If rules and standards are indeed followed, which specific ones are they? 2. I would like to learn some methods from the seniors – how do they remember all these different models? If even they can’t remember them all, then as those of us who work with equipment, how can we list the models and specifications when submitting requests to our company, so that the procurement department can purchase the appropriate type of valves? Valve numbering is increasingly lacking in consistency these days. Generally, it is sufficient to obtain the product catalog from the manufacturer when placing an order, as this will make it clear what kind of numbering corresponds to which type of valve. In several foreign projects I have worked on recently, the valves were purchased from abroad, and it was found that even for valves with the same interface, each manufacturer used a different numbering system.
