I would like to ask my colleagues: what are the specific boundaries between \"understand\", \"be familiar with\", and \"master\" as outlined in the exam syllabus for registered safety engineers? Which of these three requirements necessitate memorization? Does anyone who has taken the exam know how much content needs to be memorized? Thank you. Under normal circumstances, these three levels should be: mastery > familiarity > understanding. Mastering the content is considered “essential”; being familiar with it is “recommended”; having a basic understanding means “knowing it roughly”. That’s basically what it means, right? In fact, what needs to be memorized for exams are mainly various laws, regulations, standards, and the like. If you have worked in the field of safety for a long time, there are certain laws, regulations, and standards that you don’t even need to memorize – they are already firmly in your mind.
If you rely on memorization for the safety engineer exam, few people will be able to pass it; understanding is key. Like other exams, what is required is not just memorization, but also the ability to apply knowledge skillfully and solve problems.
Looking at just a few levels isn’t enough to solve the problem; the key is to practice more*. Only by practicing enough will one naturally know which areas need to be mastered.
For safety management and accident analysis, there is no need to memorize by rote, but laws, regulations, and safety techniques must be memorized. Especially in terms of safety techniques, there are many numerical details, and the slightest error is not acceptable.
