What are the main reasons for the blackening of the sulfur produced? How to deal with it?
The key lies in the desulfurization process. In the case of wet desulfurization, due to the different principles behind various techniques, the state of the mixture also varies. As you said, the problem stems from poor system regeneration, which leads to the inclusion of a large amount of impurities. The main suspect is: elemental sulfur form ; When drugs are added, impurities (dust, by-products, etc.) get mixed into the system. Additionally, the sulfur melting process also has an impact: continuous sulfur melting results in fewer black impurities, but more molten sulfur liquid is produced, and separation becomes slightly worse, mainly due to the dilution of the impurities. Most enterprises use intermittent sulfur melting; therefore, as the sulfur melting temperature increases and the melting time lengthens, the amount of dark impurities decreases. Generally, when the sulfur melting temperature is maintained at around 140 degrees and the time is 4 to 6 hours, there are fewer dark impurities. You can conduct an experiment: take a small amount of the black mixture, dry it, and try to ignite it. If it catches fire in most cases, then it is sulfur, just in a different form. Its structure may not be that of traditional S8; it could be intermediates such as S4 or S6. These appear grayish-black, but when melted, they return to the light yellow color of S8. This is also the effective reason for increasing the temperature to extend the sulfur melting time. If by-products and impurities are mixed in, a problematic situation arises when a gray, oily liquid appears, similar to the state of coal tar. But there’s no need to worry; once the desulfurization system is regenerated and the foam condition is restored, the impurities will be removed in no time.
The sulfur turns black, which clearly indicates the formation of black sulfur, that is, carbon precipitation. 1. The acidic gas contains oil and hydrocarbons, and the air supply is not timely. Treatment: Remove acidic gases containing oil and hydrocarbons; if the presence of hydrocarbons is not severe, increase the air supply. Black sulfur should be directed to the sulfur sealing tank, and it can be reintroduced to that tank once its color returns to normal.
