What is harder than stone, or softer than water? Yet soft water penetrated the hard stone, through sheer persistence. A young man went to apply at Microsoft, even though the company had not posted any job advertisements. Seeing the general manager’s confusion, the young man explained in imperfect English that he had happened to pass by and had entered without thinking. The general manager found it interesting and made an exception to let him give it a try. The results of the interviews were surprising – the young people performed poorly. His explanation to the general manager was that he hadn’t prepared in advance; the general manager thought he was just looking for an excuse to back down, so he casually replied, “Come and try again when you’re ready.” A week later, the young man entered Microsoft’s premises once again, but he was not successful this time either. But compared to the first time, his performance was much better. And the general manager’s reply to him was still the same as before: “Come back and try when you’re ready.” ”And so, this young man entered Microsoft’s premises five times in total, and was eventually hired by the company to become one of its key trainees. Friendly reminder: Perhaps our life journey is filled with swamps and thorns ; Perhaps the scenery we pursue is always one of winding paths and obstacles, with no sign of clarity or beauty in sight ; Perhaps, the steps we take forward are always heavy and unsteady ; Perhaps we will need to fumble in the darkness for a long time before we can find the light ; Perhaps, our devout beliefs will be entangled by the worldly dust and unable to soar freely ; Perhaps our noble souls cannot find a pure place to rest in reality for the time being... So why can’t we, with the courage of heroes, say to ourselves firmly and confidently, “Try again!” ” Try again, and you might reach success! This post was last edited by yingjun.z on 2009-4-16 12:50]
A wise person plus a brave person – what was the reason for his final acceptance? Was it to prove that he was highly capable, or did his perseverance move the examiners, or perhaps the examiners felt pity for him?………………
In my opinion, the main reasons are as follows: First, this young person is very honest; his performance in both attempts shows that what he said wasn’t an excuse (he is able to assess himself accurately and face his weaknesses honestly). Second, he is very hardworking; I believe his performance in each interview gets better over time, which indicates that he puts in effort and sees results from it (he has the ability and motivation to complete tasks). Third, he has great perseverance, as can be seen from his five attempts to join Microsoft (he is able to stay persistent). Fourth, he has strong mental resilience; although it was just a temporary idea at first, he was able to stick to it and work hard to make it a reality despite repeated rejections. This confidence in his own ability to succeed, along with his willingness not to give up easily due to others’ rejections, is truly valuable (he has good emotional regulation skills and excellent character traits). I believe that anyone who can see these strengths in his behavior will definitely hire him
