The laboratory distillation temperature won’t rise

Distilling coal tar in the laboratory has always been problem-free, but recently the temperature starts dropping once it reaches 320 degrees; increasing the power of the electric furnace results in yellow smoke being emitted, and the temperature continues to drop. What could be the reason for this? I appreciate your advice! Thank you
What is the vacuum condition like? Is the sample size large? If the sample quantity is small, it may be because there are few light components; with high heating levels, they cannot be vaporized and only smoke is produced
