On a process diagram, I saw that the equipment is equipped with two vent lines: one is connected to the exhaust main pipe for final venting, while the other vents directly and is fitted with a valve. I’m not sure if this is reasonable – is it really necessary to have two vent lines?

It should be said that, under normal circumstances, the venting medium from equipment is not allowed to be released into the atmosphere; it must be collected and treated first before being vented. In abnormal situations, however, it can be released directly into the atmosphere.
Is it for safety reasons, fearing sudden overpressure? Then it would be better to add two safety valves of different grades.
There must be other requirements in terms of the manufacturing process; otherwise, such a setting would be unreasonable.
One is for venting during normal production, and the other is for venting the gas used in purging and pressure testing. During normal production, exhaust gases containing hazardous substances must not be released into the atmosphere.
I’m not aware of the specific circumstances of the original poster, but in my opinion it’s like this: The exhaust gases contain toxic and harmful substances, as mentioned by the person above; these gases need to be collected and treated together, such as the positive-pressure exhaust gases generated as a result of reactions or storage processes; The second vent is used for draining during discharge; at this time, the vent valve leading to the exhaust manifold must be closed, while the other vent valve should be opened. This is of course very reasonable; strictly speaking, the exhaust gas absorption tube cannot be considered a vent pipe; However, it is very necessary to provide an additional vent port on each device (with a valve that is not used in normal operations)
