Why is steam used to heat the furnace tubes? For extinguishing fires?
It ensures that heat exchange is uniform and controllable as the medium flows through the furnace tube; otherwise, it can easily lead to localized overheating and damage of the furnace tube.
If the unit is in the drying stage, steam is introduced to prevent heat loss due to the lack of fluid flow inside the furnace tubes, which could lead to dry burning and localized overheating that causes the furnace tubes to creep and bend. At the same time, when there is no catalyst in the reactive furnace tube and no heat absorption occurs due to medium reactions, it is best not to use steam to heat the tube to the normal reaction temperature, as this will result in a large temperature difference between the inner and outer walls of the tube as well as uneven heating around the tube, leading to bending and deformation.
