The previous day, in the middle of the night, I encountered a problem: the temperature at the outlet of the refining reflux tower and the temperature at the outlet of the upper heater fluctuated in a sawtooth pattern. After 10 minutes, the regeneration temperature dropped significantly. Initially, it was assumed that there was a blockage in the regenerator gas recovery pipeline, but there was no pressure buildup in the regenerator, and the temperature at the outlet of the reflux tower also did not decrease; moreover, no copper melt was spilled. The copper melt at the outlet of the reflux tower absorbs the heat from steam and regenerated gas, while the heat source for the copper melt at the outlet of the upper heater comes from circulating hot water, and that for the copper melt at the outlet of the lower heater comes from the copper melt heated by the depleted liquid. The significant drop in regeneration temperature without a corresponding decrease in the outlet temperature of the reflux tower indicates that the steam heater in the reflux tower is functioning properly. The problem likely lies in a sharp reduction in the heat exchange between the circulating hot water and the copper melt in the upper heater, or in a blockage in the steam heating drain lines of the regenerator, which results in a significant loss of insulation heat; the former possibility is more likely. The outlet temperature of the reflux tower lags slightly.
