Who knows the exact calculation rules for painting various pipe fittings, including elbows, tees, reducers, etc
Based on my several years of experience in preparing budgets, there is no specific formula for calculating the cost of painting fittings. When painting pipelines, the length is calculated in terms of meters, and this length already includes the length of the fittings; therefore, there is no need to calculate the cost of painting fittings separately. This is just my personal opinion, for reference only
However, I need to settle accounts with the subcontractors, and one of them was only responsible for installing the pipe fittings.
It’s really unfair – they only contract out the work to those who handle pipe fittings, and it was the person on the second floor who said that the payment will be calculated based on the length, that is, according to the actual surface area. However, based on personal experience in reviewing final accounts, when dealing with anti-corrosion construction firms, the following points should be taken into account when examining those accounts: 1. The nature of the construction work – whether it involves heavy rust, moderate rust, or light rust – as well as the number of coats of paint applied and what type of paint is used; there are significant differences in the relevant quotas. 2. The method of rust removal – whether it’s mechanical methods or sandblasting – and what standard needs to be met; for example, there are differences between level 1 and level 2 sandblasting. 3. The calculation of the weight of steel structures: generally, I don’t calculate H-shaped steel based on its weight, as that would be too favorable; the thicker the steel, the more advantageous it is to calculate it by weight. It should also be noted that when calculating the weight of steel plates, both sides need to be considered. 4. The actual model of the steel sections; usually, when preparing final accounts, the thickness of the steel sections is increased. 5. The proportion related to height. 6. The cost of scaffolding is generally covered by the standard quotas without being calculated separately; it’s necessary to check whether this aligns with the progress of production

Formula for calculating elbows: Area (S) = π * (D + 2.1δ) * 1.5D * 2π * N / β, where D is the nominal diameter, δ is the coating thickness, and N is the number of elbows. For 90° elbows, β = 4; for 45° elbows, β = 8
I don’t know how to calculate the amount of paint needed! Are there any companies that provide detailed calculations?
According to the quota regulations, fittings are not calculated separately; they are included in the pipeline calculation based on length. If the fittings are calculated separately, it’s equivalent to some of the work being counted twice. Indeed, only the pipe fittings are considered; following the calculation method for pipes, the length is generally taken as the center length of the fitting.
