Installation requirements for flow control orifice plates

Today, I heard from my supervisor that the installation of the flow control orifice plate can be done arbitrarily, but in the books I’ve read it states that such plates are generally installed horizontally. When installed in a vertical pipe, gas flows from top to bottom while liquid flows from bottom to top. I’m not sure what’s the correct way to do this; could anyone please explain?
There is no requirement for the flow control orifice plate to be installed horizontally or vertically, and generally, there is no need for straight sections before and after it, as its function is merely to control flow. In the projects I have worked on, such requirements were not specified; I wonder if anyone has any insights on this?
Throttle orifice plates are generally installed at the end of the pipeline, either vertically or horizontally, with very strict requirements.
There are no special requirements; it is usually installed behind a valve, or without a valve. It’s a flange connection; just install it and that’s it
Throttle orifice plates should be installed in horizontal pipes as well as in pipes where the flow direction is vertically upward. They should be installed at locations where valves are present, to avoid installation using flanges alone.
