Questions about I-beams

Does anyone know what the standard notation is for I-beams? For example, what does an I-beam designated as 16 look like, what does it mean, and how should it be written in a standard format? Check the following hardware manuals or forums – just do a search for them. It seems the original poster needs to improve their knowledge in this area.
