Generally, it is kept at 3-5%. This is related to the flow rate of your lye pump. Just ensure that the methanol is neutral. The lye concentration should have nothing to do with the tower type, but is related to the amount of acidic substances in the crude methanol. To put it bluntly, it mainly depends on whether the amount of alkali added can neutralize the acid in the crude methanol. In addition, if the alkali concentration is too high, alkali will easily precipitate in the alkali pump pipeline and block the pipeline, especially in winter.
I have read in the information that in two-tower distillation, the concentration of alkali solution is controlled at 8-10%. Is this concentration available in three-tower distillation? Is it a little high?
