Radar level gauges can measure the liquid level in tanks under pressure; if this is possible, what are the requirements for using radar level gauges on pressure vessels?
The operating pressure of the level gauge should be greater than the maximum operating pressure of the container
Radar level gauges generally have certain pressure limits, and the mounting flanges also come in different pressure ratings.
Due to the principle of radar, its measurements are not affected by pressure; unlike ultrasound, where different pressures can cause measurement errors. The main issues that need to be considered for radar systems are generally related to the use of flange-mounted installations: 1) the manufacturing process of the radar must comply with pressure standards, and 2) the pressure rating of the mounting flanges must also meet those pressure standards!
Is there a requirement that a radar level gauge installed on a pressure vessel must be equipped with a valve? What about major hazard sources such as liquid chlorine storage tanks?
