Ion exchange is used in production to treat molybdenum-containing water, which still contains a large amount of fine particles after the first plate and frame filtration. We used a small plate and frame filter, but found that its filtering performance was very poor. The new filter cloth became clogged again within a few minutes; when the plate and frame were opened, there was only a small amount of residue on the cloth, and the filtering layer was hardly noticeable. In the first few minutes after replacing the cloth, the filter was able to produce water at a decent rate, but after a few minutes it could no longer filter effectively. We used a pipeline pump to operate the plate and frame filter, with a pressure of 0.3 MPA. I tried using flocculant No. 3, with a dosage of about 10 grams per cubic meter of water, which is added after the substance dissolves in water. It was okay at first, but now it doesn’t work either. Are the tiny particles in water impurities? Would it work to add activated carbon and give it a try? Activated carbon can adsorb tiny particles, serving as a filter aid.
Activated carbon is quite expensive, right? It’s crucial to figure out the magazine first
It’s likely that particles have gotten into the filter cloth. As for what flocculant to use, I agree with the person above – we need to first figure out what kind of impurities are present
Add a filter aid; if that doesn’t work, consider changing the manufacturer of the flocculant. Different manufacturers use different formulas, which are determined through experimentation, so there is no specific name given. Just stating a number isn’t enough – customers won’t know the exact composition. The formula for the flocculant should be determined by having the flocculant manufacturer conduct tests on water samples
When using ion exchange, resins are employed; in that case, are the impurities damaged resins? If that’s the case, precise filtration can be used; for example, ceramic membranes will do! !
In such cases, pre-coating with diatomaceous earth is generally used, which may yield better results. Additionally, centrifugal separation can be considered after adding a flocculant.
The substances being filtered might be too fine, blocking the filter fabric. Agree with the suggestion above; try adding a filter aid.
This is exactly the problem with plate and frame filter pressing: the filter cloth, after being cleaned, gets clogged in a very short time, which significantly reduces the processing speed. Adding filter aids and diatomite is effective, but the effect is not very significant. My previous approach was to have several sets of plate and frame filters ready, and to frequently replace the filter cloths. Using a high-pressure water gun for cleaning also results in a faster cleaning speed.
