Based on the actual conditions of the project, in oilfield stations, the drainage ditches are generally dug at a relatively shallow depth, and their structure is also simple. They can be dug when there is an urgent need for drainage during rainy days. However, the drainage ditches in municipal water supply systems are more complex, with a greater burial depth; therefore, they are not dug during rainy days.
As a reference, one method is to use plastic film along the upper edge of the groove to direct rainwater into it; water collection channels and pits can be installed within the groove, along with a submersible pump. It is practical for trenches with greater depths, but it’s best to get things done quickly and avoid working below grade during the rainy season. (For reference)
On rainy days, the moisture content of the ground soil is high, which alters the stress conditions of the natural soil and makes it prone to collapse; therefore, construction should not be carried out in rainy weather!
Although the soil is relatively loose, taking proper protective measures will solve the problem!
It’s not a big problem if it’s not dug deep enough; you just need to dig a few more times. However, water from outside the trench must not flow into it, to prevent collapse.
