In the examples of atmospheric and vacuum distillation presented in Pro II, the side streams of the atmospheric distillation column are generally specified using flow rates, rather than the dry point and freezing point of the products (diesel). I’m not sure what the reasoning behind this is Because I believe that since there are requirements regarding the dry point and freezing point of the product for the atmospheric pressure side stream, the quality of the product should be determined based on its dry point and freezing point.
The original poster can notice that in the normal-pressure examples for Pro II, the D86 curve and TBP are defined as SPECs to calculate the flow rate.
Feed and product flow rates are used, but this doesn’t play a major role; it’s the contents in the specification that are important. For example, when simulating crude oil atmospheric and vacuum distillation, approximate values for feed and product can be given, representing estimated yields. In the specification, data such as distillation curves can be specified to control the properties of the side products. If flow rate data is entered in the specification, then that will be the standard to follow
