What is the boiling point of siloxanes?
Siloxanes Molecular formula: (R2SiO)x Properties: Polymers whose main structural framework is composed of Si—O—Si bonds. *Commonly referred to as silicones or polysiloxanes, they can be linear, cyclic, or cross-linked polymers. Classified by product application, they fall into three categories: silicone oils, silicone rubbers, and silicone resins. The raw materials for synthetic siloxanes are derivatives of silane SinH2n+2. Linear siloxanes and cyclic siloxanes can be obtained by the hydrolysis of R2SiCl2-type organochlorosilanes. Cross-linked siloxanes are obtained by the hydrolysis and polycondensation of R2SiCl2 and RSiCl3-type organochlorosilanes. Siloxanes are stable to heat and chemical reagents, are not wetted by water, and possess excellent aging resistance, as well as outstanding hydrophobicity and electrical insulation properties. Used as a fire retardant, lubricant, and moisture inhibitor. Silicone resins are used to manufacture fiber-reinforced materials. Silicone rubber is also used in adhesives and sealing materials. Siloxane is a general term; you haven’t specified which type of siloxane it is at all, so how can we know its specific boiling point? ! !
Hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane: Molecular formula: C36H30O3Si3; Molecular weight: 594.89; Melting point: 184–188°C. Hexachlorodisiloxane: Molecular formula: Cl6OSi2; Molecular weight: 284.89; Boiling point: 137°C. The exact boiling point can only be determined once it is clear which specific siloxane is being referred to!
