Dryers are classified into packed towers and plate towers, and plate towers come in various types; the so-called foam tower is not included among them. # hcbbs
Foaming column; foaming tower A type of orifice plate tower. It is a sieve plate tower operated in a foamed state. To enhance production and increase the gas flow velocity, bubbles are formed as the gas emerges, creating a bubble layer, a foam layer, and a mist layer; this facilitates closer contact between the gas and liquid phases and leads to better interaction between them. Applied to distillation, absorption, cooling, and dust removal, etc.
I call them filler bath towers – they are a combination of a filler tower and a bath tower. Sometimes, for simplicity’s sake, they are just called bath towers! (Cover) This post was last edited by yzhms on 2009-4-21 13:46]
The foam tower was commonly used in the early days of chlor-alkali production as a type of tray tower; I even designed one myself, hehe. However, due to the limited operational flexibility of tray towers and the high amount of mist entrained in the flow, they are now mostly replaced by packed towers and bubble columns
We first used 78% dilute sulfuric acid for dehydration in a packed tower, and then used a bubble column with concentrated sulfuric acid for dehydration; the result was good, with chlorine content below 100 PPm.
