For pipeline pressure testing, the pipes need to be cut – how should this weld be dealt with? Are there any regulations that provide requirements in this regard?
For flaw detection, non-destructive testing is employed depending on the pipeline category.
The problem is that according to the standards, the inspection ratio is 20%; I only have one weld (which isn’t large). What should I do? Do I have to inspect only 20% of the weld area?
Why is it necessary to cut the pipes during pressure testing? It’s possible to drain the pipes completely, use valves for venting, or install blind flanges to isolate the equipment.
It can be replaced by ray or ultrasound inspection. Refer to GB50235
According to the specifications, the inspection rate is 20%; it is also specified that the inspection length must be greater than 300 mm. If the perimeter is less than this value, then 100% inspection is required.
Just make one stitch and that’s it; there’s no need to say so much. Hehe, it’s most important not to leave any hidden problems! !

This cut joint has a specific name: Golden Joint. He required 100% radiographic inspection; in fact, it’s just this one joint that needs to be inspected in this way. Since radiographic inspection is more expensive than pressure testing, while all other joints were tested by pressure testing, this joint underwent additional radiographic inspection, which increased the costs – hence it’s called the “Golden Joint” (as expensive as gold).
