We currently have one 800-ton synthesis tower and one 600-ton synthesis tower, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of synthetic ammonia; we plan to increase this capacity to 100,000 tons by removing the existing two towers. Would it be appropriate to install a new 1,400-ton synthesis tower, or is a 1,200-ton tower a better choice? Which type of internal structure for synthesis towers is currently the most advanced?
An internal component for a direct heat-exchange type synthesis tower, suitable for catalytic synthesis reactions of ammonia or methanol; it consists of two or more layers of catalytic beds (12) at the upper part, with a heat exchanger (38) in the lower part. Its characteristic is that the diameter of this internal component ranges from 0.4 to 1.5 meters, and the appropriate pressure range is 200 to 300 bars. Catalysts are supported between the catalytic beds by cold and hot gas mixers, which also serve to separate the two catalytic beds; these mixers are directly welded to the wall of the internal component.
